A word from the owner.
Arigato Record Shop was founded in 2024 and now calls the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales home. Born from a simple love for music in its most tangible form, the shop is a quiet rebellion against the disposable ease of modern listening.
In an age where songs stream endlessly at the tap of a screen, I believe in the magic of the search — the thrill of digging through crates (be they wooden or digital), chasing a long-lost treasure, stumbling upon a forgotten gem, or discovering something entirely new that stirs the soul. There’s a ritual in it: dusting off the cover, placing the record just so, and gently dropping the needle. It's in these moments that the listening becomes intentional — an act of reverence for the countless hours poured in by artists, musicians, producers, and engineers alike.
At Arigato, much pride is taken in curating each record by hand, selecting them one by one or in small, thoughtful batches — never bought in bulk, never chosen at random. This collection leans heavily into pre-loved Japanese issue jazz, alongside golden-era hip-hop and rap from the 1990s through the early 2000s — music with soul, texture, and history.
The name Arigato — “thank you” in Japanese — is a quiet nod of gratitude to a group of kind-hearted folks in Shibuya, whose early support and belief in this vision helped bring it to life. Without them, this story might never have begun.
